Job Summary: The Controller works directly under the CFO to plan and direct the accounting operations of the Waterloo facility.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Lead a team of approximately 1-2 employees.
Oversee the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll.
Provide quality checks on work performed and provide feedback as necessary.
Collaborate with the team to identify ways to improve department effectiveness and implement viable ideas.
Responsibilities: Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensure that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
Recommend benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
Provide financial analysis, with an emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
Work with external accountants and provide needed information annual reviews and tax reporting.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities: Excellent management and supervisory skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel or similar software including the creation and maintenance of complex formulas and data compilation.
Proficient in ERP reporting systems including custom reporting development.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
Ten years or more of related experience preferred.
Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.
Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization’s physical premises.
Working Conditions: Must be able to work in conditions that are exposed to loud noise, heavy vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and around hazardous and/or non-hazardous materials.
