Title: Work Experience Teacher FLSA Status: Exempt Classification: Certified Teacher Immediate Supervisor: Building principal and/or designated administrators Job Summary: This position is responsible for providing educational leadership through the Waterloo Community School District curriculum and to facilitate learning that challenges and supports all students in an equitable and safe environment and that meets Board Policy 102.
0 (Educational Philosophy) and Board and building educational goals.
This position delivers the curriculum selected by the district, congruent with the district-adopted curricula scope and sequence, in a manger congruent with district expectations for teaching strategies, approaches and methodologies.
All criteria are Iowa Teaching Standards except for those denoted with an asterisk (*) which are Waterloo Community Schools criteria.
Hiring Specifications: Education Appropriate degree(s) earned from an accredited college or university Certification BA Special Education Work Expereince Endorsement Experience Dependent on specific open position Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Develop and Implement IEP's and transition planning for students receiving work experience services Coordinate community-based work opportunities for students with IEP's by identifying, locating, and/or developing a variety of school and community-based work sites for students who are entitled.
Work sites are developed to provide career exploration and related instruction in work skills Develop and provide career/work experiences and to assist in developing and implementing transition activities for individual students receiving work experience services.
Assess students’ vocational skills and develop training plans to address needs and collaborate with VR/TAP/Project Search staff when necessary Provide classroom instruction related to developing employability skills (e.
g.
, job seeking, job retention, job termination).
Provide, administer, and/or interpret interest inventories and assessments and monitor student progress and utilize data to make instructional decisions.
Provide ongoing job monitoring, problem solving, for students at jobs sites and evaluate/communicate progress with student, and employer.
Provide/train support staff ie (para/BIS) as well as the employer to ensure students’ needs are met to complete the job tasks required Facilitate linkages with adult service providers for students receiving work experience services.
Be knowledgeable and provide consultation and technical assistance in the areas of career/vocational and work experience services including: • Child labor laws.
• Employment trends.
• Accommodating diverse learners in the work place.
• Student advocacy for accommodations.
• Career-vocational programs and services.

* In addition to these responsibilities, teachers assigned to special federal and state programs or grants must abide by the federal legislation and the rules and regulations that govern program/grant compliance.
Specifically: TITLE I – Public Law 103-382, the rules and regulations that govern Title I – Helping Disadvantaged Children Meet High Standards of the Improving America’s School Act of 1994, and the District’s policies and procedures for implementation.
SPECIAL EDUCATION – Public Law 94-142 amended by IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and Iowa Administrative Code, the federal and state rules and regulations to govern the operation and administration of special education, and the District’s policies and procedures for implementation.
