Safety Techs are part of the Mental Health team dedicated to providing a safe environment for mental and behavioral health patients while allowing team members to provide care.
Our team gives you the ability to work in the Mental Health Unit while patients are receiving the care needed to address their chief complaints.

Responsibilities:
De-escalate patients that are behaviorally escalated.
Provide appropriate interventions, which may include physical interventions, in a violent situation.
Facilitates employee workshops, courses, or training about mental health issues (restraint utilization, MOAB, and de-escalation training).
Assist departmental leadership in activities associated with Workplace Violence Initiatives which include follow-up investigations, data gathering, BROSET/Columbia scale utilization, and staying current on applicable best practices.
Respond to Security Assistance Needed and Behavioral Health Emergencies by screening patients prior to admission.
Provide a safe environment to the patients and department that are assigned.
This may be within a secure unit, an emergency department, and/or in-patient medical unit.
Includes the screening of visitors prior to the entry into behavioral health, patient rooms, and facility for unauthorized and unsafe items that may be harmful to patients, visitors, and team members.
Provide personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to patients and their visitors.
Develop constructive and cooperative relationships with other staff and departments to help provide the best possible care, which includes interaction with nursing, dietary, therapy, and support services.
Evaluate/assess patient’s current condition and mental state frequently, elevating concerns to nursing staff as appropriate for intervention.
This includes doing 15/60minute patient rounding.
Collaborate with mental health professionals and other staff members to perform clinical assessments or development treatment plans.
Meet with families, law enforcement, or other healthcare providers to exchange necessary information during the treatment process.
Provide documentation of safety rounds and all other items required by regulatory standards or policies and procedures.
Document patient interactions/needs in accordance with policy/procedures regarding utilization of organization’s electronic healthcare software.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or post-secondary education required
Post-secondary education in counseling, therapy, or psychology with 1-3 years working in a related field or situation preferred
Good communication skills; good documentation skills; ability to defuse acute situations with behavioral patients
