* Perform in-hospital lab testing and prepare specimens for outside labs
* Take and develop radiographs following proper radiographic safety techniques
* Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by providing client education, restraining animals, preparing vaccinations and medications
* Provide nursing care for in-hospital patients
* Perform client callbacks and update medical records
* Educate clients about medication instructions and administration
* Collect and prepare samples including but not limited to drawing blood, collecting urine and stool
* Report diagnostic testing results to veterinarians
* Maintain quality controls and record keeping on in-house lab equipment
* Perform treatments on hospitalized or boarding patients as directed by a doctor including but not limited to IV fluids, administering IV, IM, SQ and oral medications and applying bandages
* Provide medical grooming and trim nails
* Assist with euthanasia procedures
* Make histopathology slides; air dry or heat fix and stain; evaluate as required
* Keep surgical and treatment materials stocked
* Check oxygen lines and waste gas scavenger system; turn off scavenger system after surgical procedures are completed
* Prepare surgery suite for surgery
* Prepare instruments; know type of surgical instruments required for specific surgeries
* Follow sterile techniques for preparing surgical suite and instruments for surgery
* Calculate dosage and draw up pre-anesthetic as well as anesthetic drugs
* Assist or perform veterinarians with induction/intubation of patients
* Prepare patient for surgery
* Monitor patients closely while under anesthesia and in recovery and complete anesthesia record
* Assist doctor in performing surgery if needed
* Perform laser therapy
* Clean surgery suite and surgical instruments after each procedure following hospital sterilization protocols
* Keep accurate anesthesia/surgical medical records
* Ensure hospital patients go home well groomed and in an appropriate medical state
* Clean, scale and polish teeth using appropriate dental instruments and report dental disease to the doctor
* Assist doctor in performing oral extractions or other dental procedures
* Complete dental report cards and complete SOAP in patient’s record, and charges on travel sheet
* Take and process dental radiographs
* Create estimates/treatment plans
* Maintain cleanliness of surgery suite, treatment area and exams rooms
* Maintain all lab test kits and reagents under proper conditions
* Maintain microscopes, in-house lab equipment, anesthesia machines and other equipment.
Notify office manager or doctor if something is broken or in need of professional repair.
* Care for boarding and hospitalized animals.
* Give baths according to hospital procedures
* Clean and disinfect cages, runs and yard as needed, following kennel policy and procedures.
* Keep yard picked up and free from trash and stool
*Educational Requirements:*
* High school diploma or equivalent
* State license to work as a certified/licensed/registered veterinary technician
*Physical Obligations:*
* Able to lift up to 50 pounds
* Endure sitting, standing and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods
* Able to type information into the computer
* Able to work in noisy work conditions
* Able to restrain animals
