PRIMARY FUCTION: Ensure order fulfillment to meet safety, customer demand, quality, and cost standards for assigned product families within a single value stream.
Overall responsibility for coordinating and managing assigned resources and employees to meet company production goals.
Lead the department in daily operations, safety, and continuous improvements, which include but are not limited to; establishing manufacturing priorities, improving flow & order shipments, coordinating activities with off-shift management, and other lean improvement actions.
Oversee day-to-day activities to meet daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly expectations.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: OPERATIONS Collaborate with Production Planner to develop daily production plan by reviewing production schedules, making job assignments, estimating worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment, and coordinating material flow with other departments.
Assign, direct, and observe the daily work of operators to meet daily customer demand, per takt time.
Develop, maintain, and improve standard work in coordination with Manufacturing Services.
Develop, maintain, and improve visual controls.
Reinforce adherence to standard work and visual controls to reduce variation.
Minimize disruptions to flow within operations; create standard work for what to do when flow is disrupted, resolve or escalate to get timely resolution as needed.
Monitor and track daily performance metrics on value stream GEMBA board, including delivery, quality, safety, and productivity.
Train, develop, motivate, and lead a team of people to achieve established goals and objectives related to production, utilization, quality, etc.
Ensure quality of products meets specifications.
Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering representatives to assure adequate tools, fixtures, routings, prints, and programs are available to produce quality parts.
Assure that machinery, equipment, and facilities are properly maintained for efficient production.
Assure efficient and economical utilization of materials, improvement of methods, and elimination of wasteful practices within the department.
Keep records of departmental activities, as required.
SAFETY Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to established practices, participating in safety functions, conducting monthly safety meetings and training team to established safety/ environmental standards.
Implement, sustain, and regularly audit 5S across the value stream.
Assure that all equipment, tools, fixtures, and supplies are maintained in a safe and functional condition.
Ensure an adequate supply of perishable items are available to maintain manufacturing schedules.
Lead safety process/accident investigation for production team members.
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS Communicate with employees about important issues affecting business and the work environment.
Hold daily team briefings to review previous work day’s progress and today’s plan.
Assure that the established policies, rules and regulations, procedures and the Collective Bargaining Agreement are followed.
Encourage employees to participate in the improvement of their jobs with suggestions and assure that suggestions receive a fair hearing and an answer within a reasonable time.
Administer and document training for production team members.
Assess and address training needs of employees.
Evaluate and manage employee performance.
QUALITY & CONTINUOUS PROCESS IMPROVEMENT Lead the culture change toward one of continuous improvement organization by driving the use of process improvement initiatives and tools Assist in the analysis of production and related processes and recommend improvements or changes in working conditions and use of equipment to decrease costs and increase efficiency and quality of facilities, equipment, processes, and team member performance using process improvement tools.
Develop and/or assist in the development and implementation of process improvement practices.
Identify issues and use the value stream team or support team to determine root cause and implement corrective or preventive actions (e.
g.
implement counter measures to disruptions to flow, missed pitch, scrap/ rework / defects, excess inventory, OT).
Implement future state value stream by continuously improving processes using operator input and involvement.
Lead kaizen events; apply and coach team members to use lean and six sigma tools.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : Bachelor’s Degree preferred with 2 years in a supervisory or manufacturing technical support role (e.
g.
Value Stream Manager, Manufacturing Services), OR Associate’s Degree in a technical/related field with 5 years related manufacturing supervisory or lead role, OR High School Diploma or GED and 8 years in a manufacturing supervisory or leadership role.
OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Experience in Process Improvement, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or Kaizen.
Ability to collect, analyze, and make decisions using business metrics and data.
Experience in a manufacturing setting, machining, assembly, quality.
Must be customer focused and know about internal and external customer relationships.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and have ability to influence without direct authority.
Self-motivated, with good organizational skills and be able to handle multiple tasks.
Must work well in a team environment, experience working within a union environment a plus.
Must have good written and oral communication skills.
COMPUTER SKILLS: Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.
Must be able to collect data on department metrics and create/maintain charts and graphs in Excel and make basic presentations in PowerPoint.
Proficient with MRP systems (JD Edwards preferred, but not required).
WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS : Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions.
Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person.
Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.

Must be able to work occasional over time as required.
